Rowing Canada Aviron's women's coach Carsten Hassing will be pursuing an opportunity with the Norwegian Rowing Federation as of later this month.
"Carsten made an impact early on when the women's pair won the World Championships in 2006," said Phil Monckton, VP High Performance, Rowing Canada Aviron. "He guided three crews to the Olympics, including the first women's heavyweight sculling crew to qualify since 1996, and fostered an athlete-centred environment. We wish him success in his new position."
RCA's High Performance Director, Peter Cookson, is currently based in London, Ontario, and will oversee a transitional period for the coaches and athletes at the women's training centre.
Hassing, 42, is a native of Denmark and has been with the Canadian program since 2006.
"The athletes can be reassured that Rowing Canada will continue to provide top-quality coaching - a key element in the success of our programs," said Monckton.
